Bagua Zhang is one of the three major internal method martial arts in China, the others being Tai Chi and Hsing I. Bagua was created as a marriage of traditional Chinese Martial Arts with Taoist Circle Walking Meditation by founder Dong Haichuan in the mid-1800’s.In this seminar series, Bagua will be introduced as a martial art and Qigong method. The course will be centered on the form commonly known as Bagua Eight Animals Circle Walking Qigong. This form is equally a martial art practice and a healthy Qigong practice. Some version of this form is taught now as first form at almost every Bagua school in the world. The classes will cover basic Bagua footwork, postures, hand movements, and breathing methods. As the form and fundamentals are learned, martial arts and self-defense applications will be taught. The class is taught by Keith Winterkorn, MD, who has been a student and later a teacher at the Chinese Culture Center for 34 years.
